“Why is Obama wasting his time making a TUMBLR ACCOUNT when there’s so many other important things in the world? We’re in war! We’re in debt! We’re unemployed! We’re starving! We’re protesting! We need him to fix things and he’s goofing off on the Internet!”

Et cetera, et cetera. Why is this all over my dash? I thought I was following intelligent people.

Here we go.

It’s not a personal account. Obama is not writing the posts. The blog says right at the top, “This is the Obama 2012 campaign’s official home on Tumblr.” It’s a campaign promotion. It’s a marketing tool, basically. He has whole teams of people whose job is to promote him online. If at this point this team didn’t make a Tumblr, I would have been surprised. It doesn’t mean that he’s wasting time reblogging things on the internet. It means he and his promo team are trying to maintain a certain image in the face of a lot of opposition especially coming from the Tumblr crowd (cough, Occupy Wall Street, cough). Don’t worry, he’s still getting his work done.
