  1. Anonymous asked: HEY! so word around school is that your a bit of an english genius! do you have roader for ap eng? i know everyone says she's easy but she's super criticical of my writing! can you post some of the essays or something you write for her?

I do have AP English with Roader. I am not an English genius. She hates the way I integrate quotes in my essays. But she says I have “a nice style.”

I just posted the personal narrative I turned in to her today. I’m going to reblog it in a second.

  2. Anonymous asked: You are extremely self righteous and very rude at times. learn humility for once. learn humbleness for once. learn your place in the scheme of the world.

…I’m sorry. You’re probably right. I know I’m a pretentious bastard and there’s really no justification for it. Thank you for the reality check. Keep them coming as necessary, please?

I just want to know if this is in regards to something specific I posted recently, or just a general observation about my character.

  3. Anonymous asked: I, too, am deeply shocked by the tragic execution of Troy Davis. Very saddening.

“I, too, am deeply shocked” - who else is shocked? What country are you living in, that you aren’t forced to expect sickening injustices and blatant, government-sanctioned racism?

Can I move there? How is your economy doing?

  4. Anonymous asked: I'm guessing you have REALLY small handwriting...

That’s what they tell me. But if it’s a long quote I use an ellipsis and mark down a page number.

  5. Anonymous asked: What's up with the quote spam, for real?

“Succotash my cocker spaniel, you fudging crevasse-hole dipshiitake!”

When I read books, I note down my favorite quotes, or just something to come back to, on my bookmark. I ran out of room on my ”Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” bookmark right now.

  6. Anonymous asked: MAKE SOME LASAGNA?

Why are you anonymous? I promise I wouldn’t unfollow you if it turned out bad.

  7. Anonymous asked: what are those images you jst posted? "trim your hair" and the others...

Just playing around on InDesign. Twelve things to do when you’re bored and you don’t have a car and you don’t have friends. Today I made a thirteen-page “magazine” of images like that here, the ones I just posted were the ones I liked.

  8. Anonymous asked: WHO WAS YOUR FIRST KISS?

    this guy right here

we’re def going to be together forever

    <3

  9. Anonymous asked: i still don't understand what an Oxford Comma is...i've tried looking it up on wikipedia but it's too hard for me to understand....HELP??

The Oxford comma is also called a serial comma, because it’s the last comma in a series of items being listed.

    The formula: I like A, B, and C.

That sentence adheres to the rule of the Oxford comma because it puts a comma before the last item (C) in the list.

For instance: With an English degree you can become an English professor, a journalist, an editor, or a librarian.

Here the comma isn’t that big a deal - you know what the sentence is saying even if you left it out - but sometimes it’s necessary to convey the proper meaning of the sentence.

Here it’s useful: They sell lamps, sofas, and cushions.

If the last comma wasn’t there, you wouldn’t know if they sold sofas and also sold cushions, or if they sold sofas with cushions. Catch my drift?

So most English teachers - at least in high school - say you need these commas. But there’s always been a big debate. Journalists don’t use it unless it would make the sentence clearer. The use of the Oxford comma took a small hit yesterday, but really it’s been overdramatized. You’re still going to have to use it if your professors are fans.

  10. Anonymous asked: why don't you do romance in real life?

    My dear, curious Anon -

    I’m Muslim.

Which means that I don’t go on dates, I eat them.

By the way - by romance not “in real life”, I meant in books, movies, etc. I’m okay with fictional love but mostly I don’t really believe in it as portrayed in our society.

  11. Anonymous asked: If I'm not mistaken, you write a lot of poems about your brother! They're always my favorites. But I was just wondering if there's a story there? Do you guys have family troubles or something? If it's not too personal. I don't mean to be rude.

He’s away for college and work more than we’d like, often for extended periods out of the country. Right now it’s France. Germany in two months. I miss him. We’re drifting apart.

He’s probably my closest friend. I’ve written three or four poems about missing him in particular. I don’t do romance in real life, so inspiration for most of my emotional poetry generally comes from our sibling bond.

  12. Anonymous asked: hiya, who is your favorite (woman) model?

As in runway models and supermodels, etc? It’s hard to pick one. I’d have to say the heart-stoppingly beautiful, adorably freckled Brazilian redhead Cintia Dicker. She’s equally incredible regardless of whether she’s in vivid color, black and white, on the runway, tame Lands’ End catalogue dress, or on full display in skimpy bikinis.

Actress slash models Emma Watson and Keira Knightely come close.

Harper’s Bazaar did an gorgeous shoot with Doutzen Kroes a few years back (something like June 2009?) that had me obsessed with her.

I also love Emily Didonato - those classic photos of her with the red lipstick and big brown eyes.

  13. Anonymous asked: Hey, Aysha!!! I've been following you for a long while and I just wanted to express my deep, undying love for your blog today. :)
Originally I followed you because I guess you had a phase where you posted mostly music you liked...? then you started expanding more and I kept following you because (even though I mostly only follow music blogs) you posted some interesting things and I figured it was time to diversify, lol!! But anyways I'm really really glad I stuck around. It was really incredible to watch you grow and learn via your posts.
Also something else important that your blog taught me - before I began following you, I admit that I wasn't the most open-minded about things like religion?? OKay fine I was an Islamophobe. But you really opened my eyes about Muslims and how they're people too. When I found out that you wore the headscarf I was really shocked but you made me realize that muslims are restricted by it and asdfghjkl you helped me learn a lot.

WOW. thanks for listening to me spill my guts! and thank you for blogging <3

Where is my freaking tissue box right now?

I’ll be back after I scrutinize my followers list to figure out who you are, so that I can blubber my thanks to you personally…

That is, of course, assuming you meant “but you made me realize that muslims *aren’t restricted by it”. Yeah?

  14. dougstep asked: This is a beautiful blog. What do you aspire to be?

Thank you! I plan on pursuing journalism, so wherever that takes me is where I’ll end up. Becoming a journalist is ideal.
